Nepal finds two survivors as its flood disaster remains overwhelmingly unresolved.

Nepal’s government said 1,287 bodies had been recovered and about 5,083 people remained missing after the Bhote Koshi River floods that began on August 26. Search operations are continuing across hard-hit districts, where flooding damaged homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and communications. The rescue of two workers alive from the Trishuli 3A hydropower tunnel on the tenth day brought a rare moment of relief, but it also underscored the scale and duration of a disaster whose human toll is still being verified.

Nepal’s flood disaster remains one of the day’s most consequential humanitarian stories: thousands are still missing, recovery is ongoing, and rare late rescues cannot obscure the immense scale of loss.
