What actually happened
The relative lull in the Iran war ended with a new U.S. strike wave and Iranian retaliation that reached beyond Iran’s borders. U.S. Central Command said it struck Iranian Revolutionary Guard air defenses, radar, maritime, mine-laying and communications targets on September 1. Iran then claimed attacks on U.S.-linked sites across the region; Jordan said it intercepted 10 of 13 ballistic missiles entering its airspace, while Bahrain and Kuwait reported intercepting incoming Iranian fire. Initial reports did not substantiate Iranian claims of U.S. casualties. The consequence is larger than one night of exchanges: countries hosting U.S. forces are again absorbing the war’s immediate risk.
